OUR HISTORY

The New Zealand Art & Culture Charitable Trust was established out of a desire to ensure that the rich traditions of the Indian heritage, along with its art and culture, are preserved and celebrated in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our community members recognised the need for a dedicated organisation that could provide opportunities for collaboration between artists, knowledgeable elders, and the younger generation. While many cultural events were being held across the country, there was no coordinated framework to mentor young people in areas such as music, language, recitals, and stage performance.

The founding trustees came together with the vision of creating a charitable trust that would serve as a bridge between generations. By engaging elders with deep cultural knowledge and experienced artists, the Trust aims to guide and mentor younger people, ensuring that traditions and values are passed on and remain vibrant within New Zealand’s diverse cultural landscape.

Since its formation in 2025, the Trust has worked to provide a platform for cultural education, mentorship, and performance. It has also sought to strengthen community bonds by supporting cultural events where art, music, language, and practices can be shared not only among the Indian community but also with the wider New Zealand community.

Grounded in the belief that art and culture are living traditions, the Trust continues to grow as a hub where heritage, creativity, and education come together to preserve the essence of culture for present and future generations in New Zealand.

OUR OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the New Zealand Art & Culture Charitable Trust are to:

Promote arts, culture, music, drama, storytelling, and traditional performance as a means of preserving cultural heritage.
Deliver youth mentoring and leadership programmes that build confidence, communication skills, teamwork, creativity, and personal development.
Create opportunities for intergenerational learning by connecting experienced community members with younger generations.
Encourage community participation, social inclusion, and cultural understanding by delivering programmes and events that are welcoming and accessible to people from all backgrounds.
Support education through workshops, performances, and community activities that celebrate cultural diversity and lifelong learning.
Strengthen community wellbeing by bringing together families, volunteers, artists, and community organisations through shared cultural experiences.
Collaborate with schools, local councils, community groups, charitable organisations, and other partners to deliver programmes that provide lasting social and cultural benefits.
Preserve and share cultural traditions and stories in ways that contribute positively to New Zealand's multicultural society.
